Blast furnace

Blowers for hot-blast stoves

Blast furnace

Blast furnaces require a controlled air supply that is enriched with oxygen and preheated in hot-blast stoves. Even brief interruptions to this air supply can cause the liquid iron to solidify at the air-inlet nozzles – up to a total production loss. For reliable operation, efficient switching between several hot-blast stoves is necessary to ensure a continuous hot-air supply.

Requirements

  • High availability: a failure can lead to a total loss
  • Optimised, fast surge-limit control: switching between hot-blast stoves and operating modes can produce strong pressure fluctuations
  • Precise control of the hot-air supply despite pressure fluctuations
  • Optimal energy demand of the compressor
  • Automation of all operating modes
