Energy recovery in the FCC process uses the exhaust gas (flue gas) of the regenerator to drive a turbo expander and thus a generator. At disturbances in the power grid flow through the turbo expander must be shut down inside of 0.6 seconds. Controlled opening of bypass valves must be used to keep process pressure changes at less than 1 %.
