Software: GA safeEdit

GA safeEdit is the programming tool for the SIL3 certified safety control systems GA TMR-S. It is an integrated development and test environment, approved by TÜV Rheinland for use in SIL3 safety systems.

A graphical editor allows intuitive programming, based on IEC 61131-3 programming standards. In addition to function block diagrams the system also supports textual programming, allowing conversion between both modes.

Both program editors support an online-diagnostics mode. This mode shows the actual signal state of every function, digital and analog, thus allowing easy and exact diagnostics of the programmed functionality.
Fast refresh of the controller’s signal states on the development system, combined with integrated data logging and grafical logic analyzer, even allow analysis of temporal dependencies.

GA safeEdit features:

  • program development system for SIL3 safety functions, TÜV approved
  • program editor with text and graphic mode, cross-translation both ways
  • integrated hardware diagnostics, with signal monitoring for cable-failure and short-cut even for digital signals
  • forcing of all input and output signals
  • automatic cross-referencing for program documentation
  • integrated logic analyzer for monitoring, data logging and graphical analysis of analog and digital signals
  • program online diagnostics on the controller system
  • program simulation on the development system (PC)
  • operating mode selection via hardware key-switch, between RUNNING and MAINTENANCE
  • secured, hierarchical hardware access with 3 levels:
    1. diagnostics
    2. communication changes
    3. program changes
  • secure data transfer with CRC check-sums
  • program download verified with upload and comparison

GA safeEdit’s integrated simulation mode allows functional testing of the application software on a regular PC, requiring no hardware access to a safety system. The simulator supports forcing of all input signals, including failure states for short-cut and cable-failure.

When application software is downloaded to the control system the online-diagnostic mode is used for functional testing. The handling is identical to simulation mode, but the software is running on the actual controller hardware.

For hardware loop-checks and functional software tests all i/o signals, input and output, digital and analog, can be forced. Card-type specific diagnostic windows give access to all relevant information: physical and logical signal state, force flag, forced value, read-back value (for digital outputs), short-cut and cable-failure.

In addition to program and signal diagnostics GA safeEdit also allows full access to internal system diagnostics and the control system configuration.
